Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of ComicScout ("Scout," "we," "us," "our"), an iOS application that analyzes comic-book listings and returns a verdict, score, and market estimate. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use ComicScout.
1. The service
ComicScout is an informational tool. You scan a listing — by photo, screenshot, or eBay URL — and Scout returns an automated analysis: a verdict (BUY, WATCH, PASS, or ASK), a deal score from 0 to 100, an estimated fair-market range, sold-comp data, and risk flags. The service may evolve; we may add, remove, or modify features at any time.
2. Eligibility & account
You must be at least 13 years old (or older where required by local law) to use ComicScout. You are responsible for keeping your Sign in with Apple credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at hello@comicscout.co if you suspect unauthorized access.
3. Free tier & subscriptions
Free tier
The free tier permits a limited number of scans per calendar month (currently five). Free-tier limits may change; we will give in-app notice before reducing the cap.
Premium subscription
ComicScout Premium unlocks unlimited scans, the full deal report, sold-comp ledgers, watchlist alerts, and collection tracking. Premium is offered as monthly and annual auto-renewing subscriptions sold through Apple's App Store. Pricing displayed in-app at the time of purchase is authoritative.
Billing & renewal
Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, per Apple's standard subscription rules. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID Subscriptions settings. Apple processes all payments; we do not see your payment instrument.
Refunds
All refund requests must go through Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not issue refunds directly because we never charged you directly.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except to the extent expressly permitted by law.
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, headless agents) to interact with the service.
- Submit content that is illegal, infringing, defamatory, or that you do not have the right to submit.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service or its outputs without our written permission.
- Interfere with the service's operation, including by attempting to overload our infrastructure.
5. No guarantee of accuracy
ComicScout outputs are informational only. They are not appraisals, professional advice, or financial advice. The verdict, score, and market range are produced by an automated model that uses public listing data and may be incomplete, delayed, or wrong. Comic-book values fluctuate; grading is subjective; counterfeits exist. You are solely responsible for your purchase decisions. Do not buy a comic worth more than you can afford to lose because Scout said BUY. Verify with a professional grader for high-value transactions.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of the images, URLs, and other content you submit. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to process that content for the purpose of providing the service to you and improving the model in aggregated, de-identified form, as further described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Our intellectual property
The ComicScout name, "Scout" wordmark, the bracket logo, the verdict pill design, and the app's user interface are our trademarks and copyrighted works. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without our written consent. The Apple logo and App Store badge belong to Apple Inc. eBay and CGC marks belong to their respective owners; we use them descriptively to refer to the platforms and grading services we read data from.
8. Third-party services
The app may link to third-party listings (eBay, auction houses) and uses third-party services (Apple, our cloud hosts, model providers). We are not responsible for third-party content or practices. Your use of those services is governed by their terms.
9. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ComicScout is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ComicScout, its officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or US$50.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold ComicScout harmless from any claim, demand, or damage, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the service or your violation of these Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using ComicScout at any time and delete your account from the in-app Profile screen. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms, for security reasons, or if we discontinue the service. On termination, sections 5 through 14 survive.
13. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to exclusive jurisdiction there. If you reside in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer-protection laws, those laws will apply where they conflict with this section.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will notify you in-app and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after the change means you accept the new Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.
